Our Story

Toki Construction is a Sydney based residential building and construction company, founded by Sean McAneney and Adam Smith who met while working on some of Sydney’s most prestigious architectural builds.

Not only did the two Kiwis bond over a mutual passion for the All Blacks; but also a shared appetite for taking on challenging builds and bespoke finishes that defy the odds.

"Working with some of the most ambitious architects in Sydney, they’ve brought to life some of the most articulate drawings, to achieve homes that are truly outstanding".

Both Sean and Adam take it upon themselves to get all the details right; and have together built a team of highly-skilled craftsman with a passion for building. The Toki team are known as a friendly and polite group of employees with a ‘rain, hail or shine’ attitude to ensuring all jobs are delivered on time, on budget and to the level of quality they have built their reputation on.

When it comes to Carpentry, Toki have within their team amongst the largest and most highly-skilled group of Carpenters in Sydney. Despite their many accomplishments however, every Toki member is an absolute team-player; working hard for the team, and giving careful attention to every task at hand. Toki exclusively use their own staff from end to end for all building-related works on their projects. This means the same Toki crew that starts demolition on a site, is the same crew that will make the finishing touches on the build.

From this tight team extend Toki’s strong proven relationships with their preferred Subcontractors. Most sub-trades engaged, such as Painters, Tilers, Plumbers and Electricians, have been working with Adam and Sean for many, many years, and this only adds to their consistent quality outcomes. Toki’s end-to-end approach to every job ensures a consistent level of craftsmanship that exceeds all expectations, and achieves a home Toki walk away from feeling proud.

The Name Toki

A reflection of the team’s New Zealand heritage, Toki is the native New Zealand Maori name for axe. A Toki was traditionally used for carving, carpentry and sometimes even used as a weapon wielded by Maori warrior chiefs.

The sharpest point of the Toki has the appearance of a chisel blade and was made of either green stone or bone and today is worn by Māori elders representing strength, power and wisdom. Toki strive to bring these attributes to every project, and work hard to reflect these in their reputation within the construction industry.
